The 1960's found Ferrari and Ford battling for supremacy at Le
Mans. Ferrari took the honors early but could not hold back the Ford steam-roller.
Mid-engine cars became the ones to beat. French Renault Alpines were class
winners in 1966-68. The Alfa Romeo 33 took 4th through 6th in 1968. By the
end of the decade, Porsche had found the way to the top with a first overall
victory in 1970.
