California Crusin' in Cadillacs by Jada
by Doug Breithaupt

Jada may be one of the newer additions to the toy car lot but they have already gained a loyal following. It is important to understand that Jada is not trying to produce stock versions of the vehicles they offer. Their models are clearly 'street' examples that represent the evolution of the custom and low rider cultures. Being California-based, Jada has been tuned into the unique car culture from this region.

One marque in particular, seems to be a favorite with Jada. They have now produced their ten Cadillac automobiles (plus one truck and one SUV not included in this review), spanning models from 1947 to present. I am missing their 1947 Convertible and the newest CTS sedan. With their solid feel from metal bases and bodies, chromed wheels and rubber tires and sparkling paint jobs, the Jada Cadillacs make an impressive display. Jada offers each model in a variety of custom colors and so far, at least one example has been done in in solid colors, without flames, stripes or wild graphics. I've tried to select these versions for my collection and the result is what you see here.

Most of the models have been 2-door coupes although two convertibles and two sedan have appeared. Perhaps most interesting, Jada has offered examples of Cadillacs from years that had been overlooked for the most part. Even the 1959 Cadillac, an automotive icon, is represented by the Eldorado Seville model where most other toy versions are the Biarritz convertible. The 1961, 1962 and 1963 examples are especially interesting as they have seldom if ever appeared in small-scale.

While we are on the issue of scale, Jada clearly falls into the Siku/Norev 1:60-1:55 range. As shown above, Jada does a good job staying consistently in this range so that all their models display well together. One other nice touch is that Jada uses screw-on bases so wheel swaps are easier for those who might not like the tuner wheels and low-profile tires. If like me, you enjoy collecting Cadillac models, these Jada castings offer good quality and value.
