As a collector of model cars of all scales and with an extensive diecast library, I love this new book because it pulls together all the manufacturers of the small-scale cars (approximately 1:64) into one tome! I have many books but they tend to cover only the major manufacturers, and in contrasting scales, or focus only on one brand. Example images are included with the listings. This is quite an effort by the authors and pulls together so much familiar information but more importantly, a huge number of manufacturers and brands I've never heard of - Wow!

I never would have guessed there were so many. It is remarkable that they have gathered such a broad reference. It is important to point out that there is also and extensive bibliography that lists a large number of publications that diecast collectors will want to own. This source also contains a vehicle guide for all the examples depicted along with values and a specification of length for each. It is the kind of book you will pick up over and over again and enjoy each time as you peruse the listings.

I wish for even more photos, but I wish that for every model book - the more photos the better. It takes nothing away from this publication, and in fact the photos and printing are excellent and part of the charm. It's a great book and one I will use and enjoy often to expand my knowledge as a collector.

Kimmo was kind enough to drop off a copy of this book for me today.

And let me tell you, it is a treasure trove of information on tons of companies I've never heard of. This is the kind of diecast book I've waiting my entire collecting career for. The text is meaty and enlightening, the photos are crystal-clear and well-sized, and the learning curve that this book presents will be steep for all but the longest-serving collectors. There are weeks, not hours, of reading and absorbing to be done here.

If you're looking for a list or checklist of castings from all of the different companies, you will be disappointed. If you're only a HW fan, for example, the column or so spared here for Mattel's anchor brand won't suffice. But for everyone else, who feasts on the unusual, the forgotten and the underappreciated in small-scale diecast, you simply can't call yourself a serious diecast collector and not have this book in your library. It is essential, one of the few books out there that deserves that word.
